BRAVA Energia released on Friday (2025/3/14) the documentary Conquistando Atlanta [Conquering Atlanta], which tells the story of the challenges the company overcame since it assumed operation of the Atlanta field up to the start of production under the Definitive System, in December/2024. The project is the first and only deepwater oil production project carried out from the very start by an independent Brazilian company.

The audiovisual production follows each stage of the project, including the manufacturing, transportation, reception and installation of state-of-the-art subsea equipment, the adaptation of the new FPSO Atlanta, all the way to the installation and production of the first oil, 185 km off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro. With footage captured in Dubai, the United Kingdom, Norway, the U.S.A. and various regions in Brazil, the documentary includes never-before-seen testimonials from industry specialists, BRAVA employees and suppliers – providing real insight into the daily challenges of a project like Atlanta. More than 30 testimonials were collected, along with two years of onboard, aerial, underwater, onshore and timelapse footage, including the platform’s journey from the Indian Ocean to Rio’s Atlantic coast.

BRAVA’s CEO Décio Oddone said that, “The production of this documentary is an important achievement for all those who devoted themselves to this project and an opportunity for the general public to access and comprehend the magnitude of the endeavor. Carrying out the Atlanta project and delivering the first oil represent the beginning of a new and promising chapter for our company”.

Atlanta’s first major challenge was the conditions of the field itself: a reservoir with a large volume of 14° API heavy oil, located under 1,550 meters of ocean water and beneath 800 meters of sandstone with porosity close to the physical limit between rock and sand.

BRAVA’s Offshore Operations director, Carlos Mastrangelo, emphasized that, “Making the documentary was our way of registering this important milestone for Brazilian oil and gas. We gathered testimonials that provide an unprecedented behind-the-scenes perspective of the project, highlighting all its technical complexity. Documenting and communicating every stage of this journey is one of the key features of the project’s success and the documentary fully represents our vision”.

The production also shows that, during the adaptation of the FPSO Atlanta, the project’s engineering team had already considered various ways of mitigating the environmental impacts, while promoting technological innovation.

Conquistando Atlanta reveals the complexities of shipbuilding, the integration of cutting-edge technologies and the management and partnerships between the world’s leading industry participants – offering a balanced view of the opportunities and challenges represented by a major offshore oil project.

The documentary was produced by One Global Media, an integrated communications agency and film production company based in Miami, with professionals spread across the U.S.A., Europe and the Middle East.
